October 18th Game – Pittsburg Dragons
Plans are now set for the Pittsburg trip. First, let me outline what the players’ plan is shaping up to be.
In my last discussion with coach, the players are planning to leave OE around 11am. The Booster Club will be providing the players a light lunch of Zaxby’s and fruit for the trip down. They will be touring the Pitt State football facilities from 1:30pm to about 2:30pm. From there, they will head over to Mount St. Mary’s Colgan High School for a team meal. The Booster Club will be providing the team meal from Napoli’s Italian Restaurant. Following the game at 7pm, the players will head back to OE and they will be provided some light snacks for the road trip home.
Booster Tailgate Details:
|Food||Mr. Bevis BBQ will be supplying the food|
|Drink||Everyone will be responsible for bringing their own drinks. I do not know about what is and isn’t acceptable to be “consumed” in public and on school grounds down there, so do so at your own risk.|
|Time||The school asked us not to arrive before 3:45pm since the lots our cars will be parking in will have teachers’ and staffs’ cars parked in the spots. Food will be ready to eat sometime between 5 and 5:30pm.|
|Tables/Chairs||There will be some available, but recommend bringing your own chairs|
|Location||Grass Field west of the west Parking lot of Hutchinson Field at Pittsburg Middle School (see yellow section of map below). Look for Chiefs’ tents and Mr. Bevis BBQ smoker/grills. We were asked to set up tents/sit on the grass fields so cars can use the parking lot|
Rival Week – OLATHE SOUTH Week – Oct 21 - 25
TUESDAY – OCTOBER 22ND – ZAXBY’S SPIRIT NIGHT
Next week, the Zaxby’s on Strang Line will be running a “Rivals Challenge” between us and Olathe South. For that whole week, whoever drops the most receipts into their respective team’s helmet in the store will win $250 for the school’s athletic department and everyone in the winning school with a school ID will win a free chicken sandwich. On Tuesday, October 22nd, we’ll have a special Olathe East night and try to get as many OE there as possible to “stuff the ballot box.” Please have Tuesday, October 22nd on your calendar to join us at Zaxby’s for dinner that night!
Next week, FB players will get a chance to win a few Freddy’s, Zaxby’s and Talk of the Town free meal and gift cards I have left over from our sponsors. All they’ll have to do is answer some trivia questions I’ll post on Twitter. I’ll do that at random times at night throughout the week leading up to the Olathe South game. I won’t do it during practice or during a game, so they’ll need to keep an eye on Twitter. A player can only win once, so if they win on Monday, they’re done for the week. All the questions will have a “south”-ern theme….
Congratulations to Our Players of the Week!
Please join the Booster Club in congratulating the following players:
Player of the Week presented by Community America Credit Union
Congratulations to Hezekiah Newman, Olathe East's Player of the Week presented by Community America Credit Union. Heze's outstanding play and leadership guided the Hawks to their 14-6 win over SMW on Friday night.
Zaxby’s Freshmen of the Week
Congrats to Marcelo Bastos, Olathe East Hawks' Zaxby's Freshmen of the Week. Marcelo played a great game at LB on defense against SMW. Last week, Marcelo started learning plays at RB, filled in and scored his first TD of the season. He is always willing to do whatever is needed to help his team, playing and practicing HARD!
Scout Team Player of the Week
Sage Borghese has been named the Olathe East Hawk's Scout Team Player of the Week! Congratulations, Sage! Coach Owen and the rest of the team recognize your dedication to the TEAM'S success!
Please be sure to keep our sponsors in mind when going out in the community. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do every week and throughout the year for the team. When you stop in, please be sure to tell the manager on duty that you appreciate their support of the Hawks!
